Toothless Mabel - What Did Ya'll Expect?

There seems to be a trend here at Big And Tall Records as some of our artists have begun to record songs that state their opinion about the present federal government administration. As an RN, Toothless Mabel has an ongoing concern with the present healthcare situation, and is very worried about projected cuts in health programs for the poor and elderly. But her concern goes beyond that to the entire culture being bred by the administration, and wrote this song to express her concern. She questions the voters that elected the administration asking them what did they expect? After years of observing how Trump operates, why are some shocked about what he's doing? and upset because he lied to them? Trump would rather climb a tree and tell a lie than stay on the ground and tell the truth!

Tell me what in the hell did ya'll expect?
Tell me what did ya'll really expect?
The man's an infection, led an insurrection!
Now do ya'll have any regret?

Took a hammer to our trade
Yeah, beat hell out of our trade
Tariffs a big mess, trade partners confess
Goods on the shelves they will fade

 He does serve with distinction
Of 34 felony convictions
And the overwhelming key to his criminal presidency
Feeding his money addiction

You say that he's got a great plan
Yeah, a brilliantly hatched grand plan
But it all comes to pass He just pulls it out his ass
Ends up right where he began

Cronies are all crooked like him
Everyone of them crooked like him
But if he hollers SHIT! They squat ask how much of it?
Where'd he find so many like them?

The big beautiful bill just passed
Anyone voted for it, first to the last
There's a price that will befell the elephants can go to hell
And we'll fly the flag at half mast

Many Government employees fired
Just up and kicked 'em out, they're fired!
Supreme court the past hour said he had the power
No explanation required

ICE wearing masks just like thugs
ICE criminals look like thugs
Tying people in harness Without due process
Say all of them crooks pushin' drugs!

The times they are scary for sure
Man, these times are scary for sure
But it's time that will overcome all the crooked and dumb
If we can hang on... and endure...

Toothless Mabel - Get Up Off My Ass!

We here at Big And Tall Records have an attachment to all of our recording artists. We came about with the help of Delmar Gentry and other investors to promote and record talent that would ordinarily not get much attention. Granted, we're a small company, and our artists don't make a fortune on royalties, but they do get an opportunity to get their names out there and get a chance. One of our favorites among favorites is Toothless Mabel, an RN that worked in a major hospital until a bad round of cancer sidelined her and led to a permanent disability. It has taken her much physical troubles dealing with the powerful chemotherapy she needed, and just as much mental and emotional troubles dealing with the loss of here teeth and her decreased usage of her legs. She has been writing and performing songs telling about her struggles, and with this new song she appears to have turned the corner!  We have recently signed her to a year-long recording contract that has given her a boost, as well as a job offer to be a nurse phone consultant for patients. Last time we talked to her she sounded much better, and she's staying busy writing songs, and she took the phone nursing job which keeps her busy 4 days a week.

She's having an issue with an infection in her left hand, so she couldn't play her usual blues guitar, so we sent out the word and Goggle Eyes Brown brought along two of his Oglers on drums and bass while he played the piano. So this is a little bit different sound for her this time around.

There came a point in time in my life
When I had to wrestle back control
The black demon of my depression
Was starting to throttle my soul

Every day was the same goddamn thing
Doing nothing, just wallow in doubt
But one day I said 'NO FUCKIN' MORE!"
Was time to do the work and find out!

Don't know what there is I can do
But I have to try and make this pass
I need to get better, beat the blues
Do something, get up off of my ass!

Got a date with a shrink, finally
After some sessions, felt much better
He helped me to jog my memory
Reinforced that I'm not a quitter!

My sweets at home, with me all the way
He's put up with so much of my crap!
He's got a lot of understanding
He helps so much to unspring the trap

Don't know what there is I can do
But I have to try and make this pass
I need to get better, beat the blues
Do something, get up off of my ass!

Then things started happening for me
Got some phone calls offering some gains
As a nurse consultant on the phone
Talk to people who're sick and with pain

Then got another call thankfully
Record execs made me an offer
A recording contract, oh my Lord!
Man, it made me perk up, walk taller!

Now I know what there is I can do
Doing what I need to make this pass
Gettin' better, beatin' the blues
Finally got up off of my ass!

Like a one armed wallpaper hanger
I'm just busy throughout all the day
On the phone, practicing my guitar
Care for my sweets in every way (You know it!)

 Still go to physical therapy
Getting better at walking around
What a difference that people have had
And what peace of mind I have found!

Cannot do all I used to do
But I've given my self a big pass
Slowly choking the blues out my life
In control when I sit on my ass!

Toothless Mabel - Back In The Ditch

When a person has physical trauma in their life, the remnants of physical healing often times remain. But that doesn't mean the physical healing is complete, and it sure doesn't mean the emotional scars have even appeared yet. Emotional and mental healing can take a lot longer and are tied into the physical healing process. Mabel Hicastle has had more than her share of physical and emotional trauma since her cancer diagnosis last year. The cancer was in her leg, and she went through successful surgery and treatment which resulted in the loss of all her teeth due to gum disease. She has since had recurring issues with small tumors showing up in the same leg and foot, and once again had to  go through surgery to excise a tumor on her foot. Luckily her leg has shown no further evidence of cancer, but the concern remains that she may lose her foot altogether.

This new song is a reflection of the mental issues she's dealing with, mainly the loss of her job as an RN. She definitely will never return to here former position in a hospital, and even more than the cancer is her sorrow at losing the calling of her life. And it seems every time she's back on the mend, something else pops up. So it's no wonder she's going through so much emotional and mental anguish.

We at Big And Tall Records give her all the encouragement and support we can. She's got an open invitation to bring any songs or recording projects to us for production. She has more than one talent. Her talent and compassion for taking care of people is evident, and we hope her obvious musical talent and artistry will help carry her through all the tough times he's had and continues to have.

When you’re life is hit with a big change
Well, when you’re life is hit, with a big change
When it hits to the root, and disrupts your pursuit
Can you stop it, making you deranged

Once my life was full of commitment
My life was so full of commitment
My job as a nurse, but it could be worse
I still have all my man’s endearment

Hate to be such a whinin’ bitch
But a big part of my life is gone
I’ve ended up back in the ditch
In the goddam self pity song

Yes, I’ve still got my man next to me
I’ve still got my sweet man next to me
Don’t misconstrue, wouldn’t made it through
Would’ve cashed it in if he’d set me free

So the question is what do I do?
Question is what the hell do I do?
Not a nurse no more, can’t be walkin’ the floor
Is that part of me really through?

People say with my education
I should share it some other way
But I still got all this frustration
No matter what all of them say

There’s no more time for resentment
Get on out there and keep tryin’
For other ways for fulfillment
Won’t get no where by just cryin’

Toothless Mabel - Feelin' Sorry For Myself

Mabel Hicastle, aka Toothless Mabel, shares some of the mental anguish and physical stress of her journey with cancer. No doubt the disease not only plays with your body, but your mind as well. She worked as an RN, and got the bad news that she probably won't be able to go back to her job because of permanent disability from the cancer and treatment. This song is her story, from bitterness to resignation of her fate, sung in her melodious voice and guitar solo.

She has told us she needs to keep busy regardless of her disability, and is looking into any possibilities she may have to utilize her training as a nurse in some capacity. And she's conveyed her desire to increase her recording activity, and we here at Big And Tall Records encourage her to continue as she is able! She's a fine voice in the blues community that brings a woman's viewpoint to a genre that can be male dominated.

I admit, was feelin’ sorry for myself
Yeah, really feelin’ sorry for myself
Why was it me that hard luck would find
But did I have anyone else in mind?

 Chemo, surgeries, hospital stays
Treatments, procedures, hospital stays
Seemed it never would quit
Made me throw a real fit

Instead of seeing what it was I still had
I saw what I lost, it made me mad
I had plenty of things to say
Lookin' back, wasn't the right way.

Lost all my teeth, don't ya know
Lost all my damn teeth don't ya know
Went overnight from a good looking woman
To a prune faced, wrinkled up crow

Ended up loosing most my foot as well
Got only half my foot left as well
Everything made me sick, felt weak and abused
Told most folks in my life to go to hell

Instead of seeing what it was I still had
I saw what I lost, it made me mad
I got nasty, unruly and loud
And for that, I sure ain't proud

Took a while to get my head screwed on straight
My head needed to be screwed on straight
Things kept building and building
I wondered what would be my fate

But now I see all that I've still got
Discarded most my brain rot
Never again be a nurse
But it still could be worse

Lots better, but still have my moments
Try not to slip back to the old refrain
One thing about it, when I go off on a tear
I'm still alive...
To complain

Toothless Mabel - Eat At The Y

Mabel Hicastle, better known by her blues moniker Toothlesss Mabel had a setback in her battle with cancer. After going through extensive surgery to her left leg for cancer, chemotherapy caused a gum disease that led to her teeth having to be extracted. She was recovering well, her oral cancer was a success and she was learning how to cope with her dentures, as well as the leg surgery which cost some muscle and lymph node loss. Now after all that, she developed a tumor in her foot. It was successfully removed, and cost her the big toe and another toe on that foot. She's recovering well again, but there's doubt whether she'll go back to being an RN at the local hospital. She for sure won't be able to work the floor, as her left leg won't be able to stand the pressure of her being o n her feet all day. Hopefully she can fit in somewhere that will take advantage of her knowledge and accommodate her physical needs.

In the meantime, she was really getting the blues having to sit at home recuperating, so Big Marv, our resident recording producer (and crazy good piano player with his own group The Hodads)got wind of her plight. He talked her into coming into the studio to record. She showed u pin a wheelchair with as brace on her leg. She had a song all ready, Big Marv gave his band some direction and they were ready. Mabel insisted on standing up to play and sing, and got through 6 takes until she got the one she wanted. And as can be heard on the recording, she was in fine voice.

Big Marv has taken a liking to the blues singers here at Big And Tall Records, and offers up himself and his band for backup and any other help they may need. He can be heard on Tugboat Jackson's latest recordings as well.

Mabel offers up a song about how her man takes care of her with a special action. Sounds like those two not only have a good, loving relationship, but have a lot of fun as well!

Sang about how I take care of my man
And he sure does like it a lot
But don’t want to give the wrong idea!

He gives a lot to me, quick with his hand,
He treats me awfully hot!
He loves me that I know for real!

There’s all kinds of love he gives to me
Respect and a real sweet kiss,
I know I’m his woman for real.

He honors me too, lets me be free
To express all of my bliss,
Even when he gives a quick feel!

But the one thing he does sets me off!
Every time without fail!
Opens my heart sets me free!

He slowly takes my clothes off,
Makes me feel almost frail,
When he goes down.........and eats at the Y!

Lovin' for us, is a two way street,
Give what you want, get what you need,
From your head all the way to your feet,
 Makes our lovin' so complete.

He eats at the Y, and I know why,
He loves me more than he can say.
When he asks or offers, never pass it by
He loves to go down...... eat at the Y!

When two people love such as us
We seem to be connected thus
Nothin' we wouldn't do for each other
Try to never raise a fuss!

He eats at the Y, and I know why,
He loves me more than he can say.
When he asks or offers, never pass it by
He loves to go down...... eat at the Y!

Toothless Mabel - The Slobber Blues

We're proud to have a remarkable woman such as Mabel Hicastle as one of our artists!  She's a strong song writing talent, as well as a great performer. She was a RN working in a hospital until she had a bout with cancer in her left leg. She came out the other side of the cancer very well, but the chemotherapy caused a side effect of gum disease that cost all of her teeth! Not the best thing to happen to a woman in her early 40's, but she's made the most of it with her 'store bought' teeth, and her resultant skills garnered from her tooth loss. She sings of her tooth loss without embarrassment  as well in her aptly named blues song.

She is getting ready to go back to work after a hiatus to deal with cancer and recovery, so we don't know when she'll be back for more of her bluesy guitar playing and singing. By the way, she says in the song that she isn't as pretty as she used to be...well, she still looks mighty nice to us!

When your teeth are gone, makes your life different.
Some things you can do, some things you cain’t.
Some times it’s a problem, sometimes it’s not.
But the man in my life, thinks it’s real hot cuz

I play the slobber blues, Oh yeah, the slobber blues.
Not on the piano or that old guitar,
Playin’ on them won’t get you too far.
Mabel Highcastle 'Toothlesss Mabel'

Tell the truth I ain’t as pretty as I used to be.
Thought store bought teeth might help that a mite.
They look as bright as a new piano key,
And it sure does help me to bite. But

Not playin’ the slobber blues, Oh lord, not the slobber blues!
Ya don’t bite, ya don’t chew,
Them’s ain’t the things to do!

Well, I do look a mite better, to tell ya’ll the truth
I’m more presentable as my ol’ man’s wife.
Still won’t make much money at the fair’s kissin’ booth,
My sweetie loves me any way, still the love of his life, and he’s

Mighty fond of the slobber blues,
He’s in love with the slobber blues,
Wants to hear it often, as a rule,
And I play it for him cuz I ain’t no fool!

He treats me like a queen, toothless or not.
He calls me good lookin’ tells me I’m hot.
Still got a decent figure, with tasty sweet bits,
He likes all of me, ‘specially my tits, so

I’m Happy to play the slobber blues(on the skin flute)
Love to play the slobber blues.(I can sure make it toot!)
Put my teeth in a jar, Then play it hard and far!
My baby loves the slobber blues!
