Delmar still produces their recordings at his personal recording studio he installed at his ranch. We're planning a trip to Flagstaff this year so we can have a look at it. He's spent a lot of money for a state of the art studio that has produced some very good quality recordings. We think this song is just Amos' take on something we've heard before about fame and fortune: You can have the fame, I'll take the fortune!
When my band was playing a gig
An older couple came up to me
"Yer that guy that's named Amos!
You know Marge, the one that ain't famous!"
The guy held his drink, took a swig
As the woman told him, "Listen Fred!
You ain't famous either, ya old prospector!
Only place your famous is with the tax collector!"
So quit yer horsin' round dude!
How come yer bein' so rude!
Ain't even funny, you have the fame honey!
I'll be happier with the money!
I kept my eye on 'em all night
Seemed they always was squabblin'
Maybe they just like to fight
It feels good to them to be arguin'
So quit yer horsin' round dude!
How come yer bein' so rude!
Ain't even funny, you have the fame honey!
I'll be happier with the money!
When it was gettin' close to last call
We always played somethin' easy
If anybody wanted to dance one time
They could move in time real easy.
This older couple got on the floor
It was a sight not to be missed
They were hangin' on each other real tight
And then they kissed, and kissed, AND KISSED!
So they just quit horsin' round dude!
Were never really bein' so rude!
Look like they been together, just this side of forever
But I'd still be happier with the money!
